Tokyo Mom Guides

About us

Written in Tokyo. Verified in person. By parents raising kids here.

Tokyo Mom Guides is run by the team behind kyounoko.jp, a Japanese-language site that helps Tokyo parents find kid-friendly restaurants, playgrounds and baby facilities. We live in Tokyo, we are raising our own children here, and the places in our guides are places we actually go — with strollers, nap schedules and picky eaters in tow.

Why we started the English site

Most English-language advice about Japan with kids is written from the outside — one trip, a few weeks, then home. Meanwhile, our Japanese site has spent years mapping the things visiting families actually need: which station buildings hide the good nursing rooms, which restaurant chains genuinely welcome toddlers, where the elevators are. Tokyo Mom Guides is that local knowledge, translated for visitors.

How we work (our editorial rules)

  • First-hand or clearly labeled. Recommendations come from places we have been with our own kids, or from our Japanese-site research database. If something is second-hand, we say so.
  • Dated and re-checked. Guides show a “Last verified” date. Opening hours, prices and facilities change — if a date looks old, double-check locally before relying on it.
  • Tools, honestly disclosed. We use AI assistance for drafting and translation. Research, fact-checking and final judgment are done by our team in Tokyo.
  • No pay-to-play. Nobody pays to appear in our guides. Our income comes from our own printable travel products, not from the places we recommend.

What we make

Free guides on this site, and printable travel products for families — itineraries, packing workbooks, a kids’ travel journal and more on Etsy. If you have a question about visiting Japan with your kids, message us on Pinterest or through our Etsy shop — we answer in Japan time, usually fast.
