Sumida Aquarium with Kids: Strollers Go Inside, and No Booking Needed

This is the easiest big attraction in Tokyo with a toddler, for three reasons: you can push your stroller right through it, it needs no advance booking, and it is entirely indoors. Nursing rooms and changing facilities are inside, under-threes go free, and it sits within Tokyo Skytree Town so lunch and more baby rooms are a few minutes away.
Most of Tokyo’s headline family attractions ask something of you before you arrive — a ticket bought a month ago, a time slot, a stroller left at the door. Sumida Aquarium asks nothing. With a one-to-three-year-old that is worth more than any exhibit, because it means this is the day you can move when the morning falls apart.
The stroller difference, and why it matters
Your own stroller goes in with you, and there are strollers to rent if you did not bring one. It sounds small. It is not: it means the nap can happen mid-visit, the bags have somewhere to live, and nobody is carrying a sleeping toddler around a dark aquarium.
Compare that with teamLab, where strollers are not allowed inside the exhibition at all and you need a carrier. If you are choosing between the two for a day with an under-three, this is the deciding factor.

Making a day of it
The aquarium is inside Tokyo Skytree Town, which is a covered complex — so a wet day here changes nothing at all. That combination, a real attraction plus a mall plus food, all under one roof, is why this is the plan we suggest when the forecast is bad and nobody has booked anything.

No. It is a walk-up attraction — you buy at the door on the day. That makes it one of the best flexible days in Tokyo with small children: you can move it to whichever morning suits, which matters when someone has had a bad night or the weather turns.
Is Sumida Aquarium good for toddlers?
