Japanese Restaurant Chains With a Changing Table in Store

By the kyounoko team — counted across our own facility database, not compiled from reviews.

Data verified: 2026-07-02 · 19 chains on this page

19 of the 42 Japanese restaurant chains in our database have a changing table in the restaurant itself, 12 have one in some branches only, and 8 do not have one at all (3 unverified). The reliable ones are the sit-down family restaurants and the big conveyor-belt sushi chains; fast food, cafés and counter chains mostly rely on the mall or station building around them.

In Japan the changing table is usually in the department store or station building, not the restaurant — which is fine until you are mid-meal with a blowout. Knowing which chains have one in-store means you can pick the restaurant by the diaper situation, not just the menu. “Varies” here is not a hedge: those chains genuinely fit them out differently between roadside, mall and city-centre branches, and the notes say which to prefer.

Chains with changing table in store as standard

“Yes” is standard across the chain, “Varies” differs by branch, “No” is not offered, “—” is not verified. Age columns are the same verdicts as on each chain’s own page.

Age ratings are derived from the facility and access data we hold for each place, using a fixed rule that we publish on the page — they are not opinions. Where we do not hold the evidence a rating needs, we show “Not verified” rather than guessing.

Depends on the branch

The chain runs this differently between branches. The note says which branches to prefer, where our data has one.

Not here

Chains where our data says no. Still fine for a meal — plan the facility elsewhere.

Not verified for this facility (we hold no checked data, so we do not guess): Kourakuen, Baskin-Robbins (31), Hanamaru Udon.

How it works in practice

  • Roadside and suburban branches of the family-restaurant chains are the most likely to have a changing table; small station-front branches often do not.
  • In a mall or station building the mall’s baby room is usually better equipped than any restaurant’s — use the restaurant’s table only when you are already seated.
  • The changing table is nearly always in the accessible (multi-purpose) toilet, marked with a baby symbol on the door.
  • Carry a fold-up changing mat anyway; a booth seat plus a mat is the universal fallback in Japan.

Common questions

Do Japanese restaurants have baby changing tables?

Sit-down family restaurants and conveyor-belt sushi chains usually do — 19 of the 42 chains we track have one in store. Fast food, cafés and counter restaurants mostly do not; in those areas you use the baby room in the nearest department store, station building or mall instead.

Which chains reliably have a changing table?

Saizeriya, Gusto, Bamiyan, Cocos, Hama Sushi, Sushiro, Kura Sushi, Jonathan’s, Steak Gusto, Ootoya and 9 more. These are marked “Yes” in our data, meaning it is standard across the chain rather than branch by branch.

Where do you change a diaper if the restaurant has no table?

Japan’s baby rooms are in department stores, station buildings and malls, free and usually within a ten-minute walk in central Tokyo. Our nursing-rooms guide explains the pattern, and every station guide on this site lists the named rooms near that station.
