Harajuku with Kids: Restaurants, Baby Rooms & Stroller Tips

Harajuku works with kids if you split it in two: skip the narrow, packed Takeshita Street with a stroller and stick to the wide, flat Omotesando avenue and the parks. With Harajuku (the newer building right at the station) and Omotesando Hills have good baby rooms, and Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine give you huge green space next door.
Harajuku is two places at once: the teen-fashion crush of Takeshita Street, and the calm, tree-lined luxury of Omotesando — plus the giant green lungs of Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine right beside the station. With a baby you lean on the second half. We use the station-side buildings and the wide avenue for food and baby rooms, and save the parks for run-around time. Jonathan’s. Same group as Gusto, a step calmer. Booth seats and a changing table.
Saizeriya. The cheapest sit-down meal in Japan. Kids’ plates, high chairs, and you can bring baby food — the default lifesaver.
Marugame Seimen. Cheap fresh udon, soft and easy for little ones. Tray-line service, so a stroller needs a helper.
McDonald’s. Predictable, fast, high chairs and a changing table in most branches.
MOS Burger. Japan’s made-to-order burger chain — a notch fresher than the global names.
Matsuya. Ticket-machine beef bowls — quick and very cheap, but counter-heavy and tight for strollers.
Facilities vary by branch and change over time — treat this as “what to expect”, and any staff will help if you ask “high chair?” or “changing table?”.
Nursing rooms & changing near Harajuku Station
- With Harajuku, the newer complex directly across from Harajuku Station, has clean restrooms with changing facilities and easy elevators — the handiest stop right where you arrive.
- Omotesando Hills and the Omotesando department buildings have proper baby rooms (nursing + changing) on their family floors.
- Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park have restrooms with changing tables near their main entrances.
Strollers, elevators & getting around
- Avoid Takeshita Street with a stroller — it is narrow and shoulder-to-shoulder most of the day. The parallel Omotesando avenue is wide, flat and tree-lined, and much easier with a pram.
- Meiji Shrine’s approach is broad gravel but flat and stroller-passable; Yoyogi Park next door is big, flat and grassy — the best place near the station to let kids run.
- Harajuku Station itself is step-free via the newer exits toward With Harajuku and Omotesando.
