Which Japanese Restaurant Chains Have High Chairs?

By the kyounoko team — counted across our own facility database, not compiled from reviews.

Data verified: 2026-07-02 · 33 chains on this page

33 of the 42 Japanese restaurant chains in our database have high chairs as standard, 7 have them in some branches, and one chain does not (1 unverified). High chairs in Japan are typically wooden or plastic seats without a tray that pull up to the table, and at chains they are free and unlimited — you rarely have to ask twice.

High chairs are the facility Japan does best, so the interesting column is not the high chair itself but what sits next to it: whether there is a kids’ menu to put in front of the chair, whether the branch has booths (easier with a baby who tips a chair over), and whether you can push the stroller to the table instead of transferring. Together those decide whether a toddler meal is a fifteen-minute job or a forty-minute wrestle.

Chains with high chairs as standard

“Yes” is standard across the chain, “Varies” differs by branch, “No” is not offered, “—” is not verified. Age columns are the same verdicts as on each chain’s own page.

Age ratings are derived from the facility and access data we hold for each place, using a fixed rule that we publish on the page — they are not opinions. Where we do not hold the evidence a rating needs, we show “Not verified” rather than guessing.

Depends on the branch

The chain runs this differently between branches. The note says which branches to prefer, where our data has one.

Not here

Chains where our data says no. Still fine for a meal — plan the facility elsewhere.

Not verified for this facility (we hold no checked data, so we do not guess): Hanamaru Udon.

How it works in practice

  • Ask for “kodomo-yō no isu” (a child’s chair); at family restaurants staff usually bring one before you ask.
  • Most Japanese high chairs have no tray and no strap — for a baby who cannot sit steadily, a booth with the baby on your lap works better.
  • Belt-style “chair belts” sold at baby stores (and on Amazon Japan) turn any chair into a high chair; families here carry one.
  • Counter chains (beef bowl, ramen) sometimes have a single child seat at the end of the counter — ask, but plan on a booth chain if the seating matters.

Common questions

Do restaurants in Japan have high chairs?

At chains, almost always: 33 of the 42 we track have them as standard. Small independent restaurants and counter-only places are the exception, and even there many will produce one from the back.

Which chains have both high chairs and a kids’ menu?

Gyoza no Ohsho, Saizeriya, Gusto, Bamiyan, Yayoiken, Cocos, Hama Sushi, Sushiro, Kura Sushi, Jonathan’s and 21 more — these are the chains where a toddler gets a seat and a plate of their own without any negotiation.

Do I need to bring a travel high chair to Japan?

Not for chains or family restaurants. A fabric chair belt is worth packing for small independent restaurants and for izakaya-style seating, where a child seat may not exist.
