Shibuya is doable with small kids if you use the new tower buildings as your base: Shibuya Hikarie and Scramble Square have excellent baby rooms and family dining above the station, and Miyashita Park gives you green space with lift access. The main things to plan around are the hills, the crowds, and Shibuya’s famously confusing station.
Shibuya is busy, hilly and mid-redevelopment, which sounds hard with a stroller — but the payoff is that everything you need is stacked inside a few connected towers with elevators and baby rooms. We treat the new buildings (Hikarie, Scramble Square, Miyashita Park) as the family core and save the famous crossing for a quick photo. Gusto. Full family restaurant: kids’ menu, drink bar, a changing table, and a tablet to order in English.
Jonathan’s. Same group as Gusto, a step calmer. Booth seats and a changing table.
Royal Host. The nicer family restaurant — a bit pricier, roomy booths, reliable changing table.
Sushiro. Conveyor sushi is a hit with kids — touch-screen ordering, plates from ~¥120, often a toy-capsule reward.
Kura Sushi. Like Sushiro, with a “Bikkura Pon” capsule toy every five plates — pure kid catnip.
Ootoya. Home-style Japanese set meals — an easy way to try real washoku with kids.
Facilities vary by branch and change over time — treat this as “what to expect”, and any staff will help if you ask “high chair?” or “changing table?”.
Nursing rooms & changing near Shibuya Station
- Shibuya Hikarie (connected to the station) has some of the best baby facilities in Shibuya — spacious nursing rooms, hot water and a kids’ area, plus family-friendly restaurant floors.
- Shibuya Scramble Square and the Tokyu department stores also have baby rooms marked on their floor maps; any information desk understands “baby room?”.
- Miyashita Park, the rooftop park over the shops, has restrooms with changing facilities and step-free lift access.
Strollers, elevators & getting around
- Shibuya Station is a maze mid-rebuild — with a stroller, follow signs to the elevators inside Hikarie or Scramble Square rather than the stairs and scrambles.
- The area is hilly: the flat, easy ground is around the station and Miyashita Park, while streets like Dogenzaka climb quickly, so pick your route.
- The famous scramble crossing is flat but extremely crowded — fine to cross, not a place to linger with a pram at peak times.
