Kasai Rinkai Park with Kids: The Aquarium-and-Park Day

Kasai Rinkai Park is the best pure-park day in Tokyo with small children: a huge, flat bayside park with an excellent aquarium, a big Ferris wheel and endless lawn, right outside the station. It is on the Keiyo line, the same line as Tokyo Disney Resort, so it slots in perfectly on either side of a Disney day.
If your kids need a day with no crowds, no stairs and a lot of running, this is it. Kasai Rinkai Park sits directly outside its own JR station on Tokyo Bay: wide flat paths, big lawns, a Ferris wheel, a bird sanctuary and Tokyo Sea Life Park, an aquarium famous for its huge tuna tank and its penguins. It is two stops from Maihama (Tokyo Disney Resort), which makes it the ideal low-key day before or after the parks. If it rains at Kasai-Rinkai-Koen Station
Be honest with yourself about the weather here: this is a park day, and the park is wide open with very little shelter. In rain, Tokyo Sea Life Park is the only real indoor option — it is a good aquarium and will fill two or three hours — but if the forecast is bad, this is the day to swap for Sunshine City or Solamachi and come back when it is clear.

When to go, and how long to allow
Budget a full day in good weather. Summer is beautiful but the lawns have limited shade, so come early, bring sun cover and plan the aquarium for the hottest part of the afternoon. It is two stops from Maihama, so it slots naturally into the day before or after Tokyo Disney Resort.
