Maxell Aqua Park is the aquarium built into the Shinagawa Prince Hotel, two minutes from Shinagawa Station — which makes it the single easiest attraction to bolt onto an arrival day, a Shinkansen day, or a jet-lagged morning. It is staged with sound and light rather than daylight: dramatic dolphin shows, dark corridors — brilliant from about one, worth a thought if your child startles at noise and dark.
Where it fits in a Tokyo trip
Its role in a trip is logistical: it is the attraction you can do with luggage stored at Shinagawa, on the day you arrive at Haneda, or as the soft first morning when everyone is awake at 5am anyway. No booking needed — it absorbs a schedule change better than any big-name sight.

Yes — from about age one on our own visits, with the dolphin show as the centrepiece and under-fours free. The one honest caveat is the staging: it is dark and loud by design, which most toddlers love and some do not.
Do you need to book Aqua Park Shinagawa?
No — it is a walk-up aquarium, which is exactly why we recommend it for arrival days and schedule changes. Expect the biggest crowds around the dolphin show times.
Which Tokyo aquarium is best with a small child?
Depends what you need: Aqua Park for station-side convenience and the theatrical show, Sunshine Aquarium for the full rainy-day complex around it, Shinagawa Aquarium (a different, smaller place) for a calm cheap morning, and Sumida Aquarium for the no-booking, stroller-inside ease by Skytree.
