Tokyo Attractions Free for Toddlers: Age Cut-Offs, Place by Place

By the kyounoko team — the age structure of each venue’s admission, read from our Tokyo research database. No prices, on purpose.

Last verified: August 2026 · 57 places

Most of Tokyo is free for a toddler: of the 47 attractions we have checked where the age line is in our data, 26 are free all the way to school age, 9 more are free until four and 9 until three. Only 3 start charging at two or younger — and they are the big-ticket, timed-entry places. Below is every place grouped by where the free band ends, with the exact wording from each guide.

The number that decides whether a place is good value with small children is not the adult ticket, it is the age at which the child starts paying — and that age varies from six months to twelve years across Tokyo. We read the structure from each venue’s published pricing and print only the structure: who is free, and from what age they are not. For prices, follow the official link on each guide.

How to read this

  • The groups are derived, the wording is not. We sort each place into a band by reading the age at which its own published pricing stops being free; the sentence in the second column is the one already on that place’s guide. Where the two disagree, trust the guide and tell us.
  • “Free until school age” means preschoolers pay nothing — typically the cut-off is starting elementary school at six, and at a few public venues it runs to the end of junior high.
  • Timed-entry venues still need a ticket for the free child. teamLab, KidZania and the Disney parks issue zero-yen tickets that are booked with yours; the age band tells you the price, not whether you can walk up.
  • 9 of the 51 attraction guides have no age line in our pricing data. They are listed under “not in our data” rather than guessed at.

Common questions

Are Tokyo attractions free for toddlers?

Mostly, yes. Of the 47 places we have checked where the age line is in our data, 26 are free right up to school age, 9 more are free until the fourth birthday and 9 until the third. Only 3 start charging at two or younger. Trains are free under six as well.

Is Ueno Zoo free for kids?

Yes — children are free up to junior-high age, which is unusually generous for a major city zoo. Adults pay a small admission. Our Ueno Zoo guide has the visit notes.

Which Tokyo attractions charge for a 2 year old?

Tokyo Toy Museum, ASOBono! (Tokyo Dome City), Yokohama Anpanman Children’s Museum — these are the places in our data where the free band ends at or before the second birthday. Everywhere else a two-year-old is free.

Do you list prices?

No. Admission prices change and we would rather be right about the structure — who is free and from what age — than wrong about a number. Every place links to its official site for current prices.

Does “free” mean the child needs no ticket at all?

Usually a free child still needs an adult ticket-holder and, at timed-entry venues (teamLab, KidZania, the Disney parks), may still need a zero-yen ticket booked with yours. Check the booking page when you buy.
