Mother Farm is the big animal-contact farm on the Chiba side of Tokyo Bay: sheep shows, feeding, seasonal flower fields, and enough space to lose a day in. From our visits it clicks from about eighteen months, when reactions to animals become real. The warning nobody gives you: it is built on a hillside, and pushing a stroller up it tires the adults out first.
Where it fits in a Tokyo trip
A committed day trip — across the bay via the Aqua-Line, or by train and bus — best in spring for the rape blossom and autumn for the cosmos. It is the countryside day of a Tokyo trip, and the antidote to a week of stations and crowds.
Getting there: Bus from Sanukimachi Station (JR Uchibo line), or by road via the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line.
Admission structure: Free for preschoolers; school-age children pay a modest admission. We do not print prices — they change; check the official site before you go.

Baby (0–1)

The slopes
Our clearest warning: there are far more hills than expected and pushing a stroller through them is genuinely tiring. A light stroller helps; a carrier helps more.
Crowds
Long weekends and spring get busy, and crowds bunch around the sheep events. Arriving in the morning makes the whole day move better.
Baby care
The site is large, but the main areas have what you need — this was not a problem on our visits.
How long
Half a day to a full day, usually with a nap in the middle.
Watch out
Summer is genuinely hot and the park is too big to “do” — pick a zone or the adults run out of energy before the children do.

What age is Mother Farm best for?
From about eighteen months on our own visits — that is when animal contact starts producing real reactions. Younger than that and you are pushing a stroller up hills for a view. From two to six it is one of the best animal days near Tokyo.
